Northern Europe

Snow, pretty much everywhere.

Snow with flash

This wasn't quite what I was aiming for but it's quite effective.

Photos of Singapore

I'm writing this in a coffee bar in Funan Digital Life Mall,
Singapore. Free wifi is a little rare in Singapore (the hotel charges
£10 per day per device - not funny) so I probably won't be able to
send this till I get to the airport. Nice place, Singapore, and it's
been good to catch up with old friends, but I'm looking forward to
getting home to the wife - it's been a long week.

Hong Kong by Night

Here are a few shots taken from the side of the hotel pool on the 32nd floor. I thought it might be nice to have a quick dip after wandering around Hong Kong this afternoon so I popped up to the roof (where they keep the pool). Unfortunately, the pool was closed because of a thunderstorm warning (no sign of the storm yet) so all I could do was test the water with my fingers, take a few photos and try not to worry about the railing collapsing as I peered at the view (it didn't, you'll be relieved to know, and I didn't plunge 300ft to the pavement below).

Defeated in my quest for a swim, I thought I'd have a go at the restaurant instead. The buffet wasn't bad if you like fried food; I had fried rice with fish, deep-fried cuttlefish, stir-fried ostrich and marinated lamb (grilled, it appears, although it may just have been frying for a long time). Tomorrow I think I'll try the menu in case it offers a larger selection of fried food.

I'm now in the hotel bar "enjoying" the Tottenham v Manchester City game (Spurs are 2 goals down at half-time and look like they may have been better off if they hadn't turned up at all) with a glass of Merlot. Frankly, the free peanuts are better than both the wine and the football.

Update: I didn't make it back to a wifi hotspot before the end of the game; Man City won 5-1.

First shots of Hong Kong

Hot, humid and polluted. Lots of people, lots of noise. HK has a lot in common with London. Haven't tried food from the street vendors but coffee and quiche from a French cafe in a shopping mall is probably ok.

World

Not sure which part of the world, but here it is anyway. Window is a bit scratched, unfortunately.

Greenwich Park

Spent the day in Greenwich and it's park. Photos below, slightly edited in SnapSeed.

Goose Green, East Dulwich

It was cold in Dulwich this week and walking to the station was not a
lot of fun.

Two views of the Lerryn Rive

One is a straight landscape shot of the water, the other a composite
of seven portrait images. Both of then look pretty good on the
iPhone's screen.

Fowey, town and river, from Polruan

It was a bit of a damp day but the view was still quite good.

Lerryn, Cornwall

We had a wander along the riverside last night. Amazingly, the weather
cleared and the rain stopped.

Boring phone photo of Moscow Airport

I'm bored on the plane, so here's a photo of the runway so you can
look at it and be bored as well.

St David's Hotel, Cardiff, lobby atrium

It's just a big space, and nobody can hear you scream!

Giant sponge found!

This Victoria sponge was spotted in a sandwich shop in Keswick, Cumbria. Quality is unknown since the size and construction of the cake are enough to defend it against all but the most experienced cake-eaters. A mere amateur, I must admit to being slightly intimidated.

Random panorama, somewhere in Cumbria

Looks like a nice, if slightly isolated, place to live.

Hampshire - grey and overcast

Like a rural version of a Victorian slum, Hampshire this morning is
dull, grey, chilly and damp. The forecast is for better weather as te
day progresses, but it doesn't feel much like summer at the moment.
